Chasing Dickerson (and/or Faulk): History's coming Print E-mail
Monday, 04 January 2010

Chris Johnson, despite a tremendously productive week, got a little bit smaller in Eric Dickerson's rearview mirror. Johnson only came up with 117 yards rushing, which means he'll need to finish the season with three monster games if he wants to break Dickerson's single-season rushing record.

Johnson's at 1,626 yards on the season, while Dickerson's record stands at 2,105. That leaves 479 yards to go, and three games to get them. He'll need to average 159.67 yards per week over the next three. Here that is, in handy chart form.

So he's fading a little bit from Dickerson's pace. It's still not impossible, though it will take a ridiculous pace to get there. But hey, Chris Johnson is in the ridiculous pace business.

The upside, though, is that he did have 69 yards receiving this week, putting Marshall Faulk's single-season record for yards from scrimmage in his sights. Johnson is at 2,017 combined rushing and receiving yards, with Faulk's 1999 record standing at 2,429. Johnson's only 412 yards away from that mark, which means he needs to average 137.3 yards per game over the next three, rushing and receiving combined. Here's that, in handy chart form:

As you can see, he's ahead of the pace for this particular record. At this point, Faulk's record is way more attainable than Dickerson's. We'll keep an eye on it for you. Either way, we're all lucky to be watching Chris Johnson this season, and if he's on your fantasy team, you are unspeakably lucky and I hate you.
